Romanian natural gas transmission system operator Transgaz is planning to hire lawyers and launch legal procedures for the recovery of outstanding debts by Russian gas company Gazprom.

Namely, in November 2022, Gazprom stopped making the payments specified by long-term gas transit agreement, which was terminated over two years ago.

In late 2020, the historic contract for transport of natural gas on the Isaccea–Negru Voda pipeline (from Russia-Ukraine-Moldova to Bulgaria) was terminated by the conclusion of a new agreement between Transgaz and Gazprom that created the necessary framework to ensure the free access of third parties to the reservation of capacity on the transit pipelines.
