Romania sees sharp decline in day-ahead and intraday electricity prices in August 2025

In August 2025, the average electricity price on Romania’s day-ahead market at OPCOM was 78.29 euros per MWh, down 52.44% compared to August 2024 and 28.35% lower than July 2025, when the average baseload price was 103.5 euros per MWh.

The traded volume on the day-ahead market reached 1.2 million MWh, a decline of 17.79% compared to August 2024 and 7.8% compared to July. The average traded volume in August was 1,614.7 MWh per hour. The total value of day-ahead transactions amounted to 97.1 million euros, down 53.28% from 207.8 million euros in August 2024 and 28.26% lower than in July. The day-ahead market represented 30.7% of forecasted net electricity consumption.

On the intraday market, 163,828.5 MWh were traded in August, 0.27% more than in August 2024 but 14.12% less than in July. The average intraday price was 60.43 euros per MWh, falling 54.18% year-on-year and 39.47% month-on-month.

For bilateral contracts with delivery in August, the total traded volume reached 1.061 million MWh, with an average price of 103.73 euros per MWh.
