Rompetrol Rafinare, a part of Kazakh KMG International Group, said that repair works at its Petromidia Navodari oil refinery are almost completed and it is expected that the installations will reach optimal capacity by the end of October.
The statement from the company said that the diesel hydrotreater unit, where the July explosion occurred, has been technologically isolated, and its reconstruction and restart are expected to take place during 2022. The technological installations will be restarted in stages and are expected to reach the optimal operating efficiencies by the end of October.
On 2 July, KMGI Group said that its Petromidia Navodari refinery has stopped operation after a fire broke out at one of the installations. An incident took place on the platform of the Petromidia refinery, within the diesel oil refining installation (HPM). The incident resulted in death of three workers.
The explosion at the Petromidia refinery took place after the unit underwent a general overhaul between March and April 2020.
