Dutch solar developer Photon Energy has commissioned a new solar power plant in Romania, boosting the country’s total installed solar capacity to 51.6 MW. The Sarulesti plant, located in Calarasi county near the Bulgarian border, is the 13th addition to Photon Energy’s independent power producer (IPP) portfolio.

With an installed capacity of 3.2 MW, the plant is expected to generate approximately 4.9 GWh of electricity annually. It features 5,760 bifacial photovoltaic modules and single-axis trackers, spread over more than 4.5 hectares of greenfield land. The facility is connected to the grid managed by E-Distributie Dobrogea, and its output will be sold on a merchant basis rather than through power purchase agreements. Photon Energy anticipates that the plant’s generation will yield estimated revenues of €400,000 in 2025, based on conditions set by Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica.
