Romania opens new wind farm auction after previous tender falls short of 2 GW target

Romania’s Ministry of Energy has announced a new call for expressions of interest from developers to include additional wind farms in the upcoming Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction. This follows the previous tender, which awarded just 1.26 GW of wind capacity out of a 2 GW target.

The Ministry is targeting projects that are sufficiently advanced but were unable to participate in the last round due to tight deadlines. After reviewing market feedback, authorities will determine the total auctioned volume and may adjust the quota if sufficient eligible interest is received.

In the previous auction, a maximum strike price of 80 euros/MWh was set for a 15-year period. All winning bids came in below this ceiling, with the lowest accepted offer at 65.17 euros/MWh and the largest approved project sized at 211 MW.
