Romanian electricity transmission system operator Transelectrica, the parent company of natural gas and electricity market operator OPCOM, said that it might start operating in Moldova.

Namely, last week, Transelectrica held talks with the Moldovan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu and agreed on the next steps for OPCOM to become Moldova’s electricity market operator.

The two sides also discussed accelerating works on the 400 kV overhead transmission line connecting Romanian city of Suceava and Moldovan city of Balti, as well as developing a new 400 kV transmission line. These projects will be included in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed between the two governments.

The integration of Moldova’s power transmission company Moldelectrica into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) was also on the agenda.
