Romanian electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, the operator of the country’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, recorded a net profit in the amount of 555 million euros in 2022, which is 163 % higher compared to the previous year, mostly driven by higher electricity prices.
The company’s total revenues more than doubled, reaching 1.29 billion euros in 2022, compared to 643 million euros in the previous year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) also doubled to 720.5 million euros in 2022 from 354 million euros in the previous year.
Operating expenses increased by 75 % on the year, reaching 722.5 million euros in 2022, while its operating profit amounted to 598 million euros, an increase of 149 % year-on-year.
The company’s total assets amounted to 2.4 billion euros in 2022, increasing from 1.95 billion at the end of 2021, while total liabilities amounted to 263 million euros, up from 256 million in the previous year.
Nuclearelectrica produced and delivered 10.2 GWh of electricity to the national electricity network in 2022, which is an 1.7 % decrease compared to 2021. 99.61 % of produced electricity was sold on the free market at an average price of 121.9 euros/MWh, compared to 57.7 euros/MWh average in 2021.
