Romanian electricity producer Nuclearelectrica, the operator of the country’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said that 700 MW unit 1 of the plant has been taken offline on 26 August for repair works.
The statement from the company said that the controlled shutdown and the completion of the repair works have no impact on personnel, nuclear safety, environment and population. The controlled shutdown of unit 1 is necessary in order to carry out repair works of the filtration system of the aspiration pool, in the conventional part of the power plant. However, it did not disclose any info related to the unit’s downtime.
NPP Cernavoda provides about 18 % of the national electricity consumption. It has two reactors with installed capacity of 700 MW each.
