The judicial administrator of state-owned electricity producer Energy Complex (EC) Hunedoara Emil Gros said that no bidders have registered for the auction for the sale of coal-fired thermal power plant Mintia. The deadline for bids submissions passed on 12 July.
Gros said that the auction scheduled for 15 July will be held anyway, following that in the reports that will be concluded on that occasion the factual situation will be recorded. The auction will then be repeated, at the same price, of 91.23 million euros without VAT, on 29 July. If the asset is not sold, the auction will be repeated on 12 August and then on August 26, under the same price and conditions, as approved by the company’s creditors.
Among the conditions imposed by the Ministry of Energy to the company that will purchase the coal- fired power plant is the obligation to develop a new energy capacity of 800 MW in methane gas and renewable energy by the end of 2026.
TPP Mintia ceased operations in March last year due to a lack of coal, and all 700 employees were laid off collectively in August, receiving compensatory payments of 10,000 euros each.
Previously, Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu claimed that seven potential investors have expressed interest in buying TPP Mintia.
