In 2024, Romania’s only commissioned wind power generation capacity will be a 30 MW facility developed by the Medgidia cement factory, part of the CRH multinational group. Currently, this wind farm, consisting of five Nordex turbines each with a capacity of 6 MW, is not connected to the national electricity grid; its output will be utilized solely for local consumption. The facility is scheduled to become operational on November 1.

The wind farm is expected to cover up to 40% of the cement factory’s electricity consumption. Although CRH has sought to connect the wind farm to the national grid to distribute the generated electricity to its other production sites in Romania, these efforts have not yet succeeded.

The investment in this project received a €6 million grant under the national Recovery and Resilience Plan, highlighting the government’s support for renewable energy initiatives.
