Romania expands gas network to over 50,000 km in 2024, with urban areas consuming majority of supply

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), Romania’s natural gas distribution network totaled 50,972.4 kilometers by the end of 2024. Of this, 26,558 kilometers were located in municipalities and urban centers.

Over the course of the year, natural gas was delivered to 1,023 localities, including 255 officially designated cities and towns. The distribution network expanded by 1,828.2 kilometers, representing a 3.7 percent increase compared to 2023.

Total gas throughput reached 7.329 billion cubic meters in 2024, up by 6.5 million cubic meters from the previous year. Household consumption accounted for 3.135 billion cubic meters, or 42.8 percent of total distributed gas. Additionally, 84.4 percent of the gas was supplied to urban areas.
