Romania: Electricity production dropped by 7.9 % in the first eleven months of 2019

According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first eleven months of 2019 amounted to 50.58 TWh, which is 0.6 % less compared to the same period last year. The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 38.8 TWh, which is 5.9 % less compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 11.27 TWh, which is a 22.5 % increase. Public lighting consumption rose by 11.8 % amounting to some 521.6 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 54.16 TWh in the January-November period, which is 7.9 % less than in the same time last year. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 10.1 % and reached 21.51 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 13.4 % to 14.75 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 1.2 % to 10.23 TWh. Production of wind power rose by 2.2 % compared to January-November 2018, reaching 6.01 TWh. Solar power production increased by 2.5 % to 1.67 TWh. Electricity exports in the first eleven months of 2019 amounted to 3.11 TWh, which is by 39.5 % or 2.04 TWh less compared to the same period last year. At the same time electricity imports increased by 82.5 % and amounted to 4.48 TWh.

Total production of primary energy resources in January-November 2019 amounted to 18,280 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4 % less than in the same period in 2018. In the first eleven months of the year, coal production reached 3,424 million tons of oil equivalent (- 8 %), oil production reached 3,053 million tons of oil equivalent (- 1.2 %), while production of natural gas reached 7,367 million tons of oil equivalent (- 2.7 %).
