Romania: Electricity prices surge in November 2024, trading volumes and transaction values increase

In November 2024, the average price of electricity on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM reached 169.03 euros/MWh, marking a significant increase of 64.5% compared to November 2023 and a rise of 87.34% compared to the previous month, when the average baseload price was 89.7 euros/MWh.

The total traded volume on the day-ahead market in November amounted to 1.59 million MWh, reflecting a 5.47% increase compared to November 2023 and a 4.44% rise from October 2024. The average traded volume per hour in November was 2,202 MWh. The total value of transactions on the day-ahead market in November reached 298.3 million euros, an 87.11% increase compared to the same month last year (159.4 million euros) and a 100.21% rise compared to the previous month (149 million euros). The day-ahead market accounted for 34.35% of the forecasted net electricity consumption in November.

On the intraday market, 154,080.4 MWh was traded in November, a 16.67% decrease compared to November 2023 and a 3.27% drop compared to October. The average price on the intraday market was 185.33 euros/MWh, marking a 63.99% increase compared to November 2023 and a 128.99% rise from the previous month.

The total traded volume for bilateral contracts with delivery in November amounted to 0.939 million MWh, with an average price of 98.81 euros/MWh.
