In the first three months, electricity consumption in Romania amounted to 12.7 TWh, 9% less compared to Q1 2022, according to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics. Industrial electricity consumption fell by 6% to 9.6 TWh in the same period.
Household electricity consumption amounted to 3 TWh. That is a 15% decrease. Public lighting consumption dropped by 29% to 105.4 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 15.7 TWh in the first three months of 2023. That is 5% more compared to the same period in 2022.
Production in thermal power plants decreased by 7% and reached 5.22 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 40% to 4.7 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 1% to 3 TWh.
Wind power output in January-March 2023 dropped by 3% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 2.4 TWh. Solar power production reached 298 GWh, 15% less compared to 2022.
Electricity exports in the first quarter of 2023 amounted to 3.1 TWh, which is 113% more compared to the same period in 2022. Electricity imports decreased by 21% and amounted to 1.7 TWh.
