According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first two months of 2022 amounted to 9.13 TWh, which is 1.8 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 6.5 TWh, which is 2.1 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 2.52 TWh, which is a 1.1 % decrease. Public lighting consumption dropped by 0.9 % amounting to some 102.7 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 10.11 TWh in the first two months of 2022, which is 2.2 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 1.4 % and reached 4 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 24.2 % to 2.25 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased by 7 % to 1.98 TWh. Production of wind power in January-February 2022 rose by 28.7 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 1.7 TWh. Solar power production reached 186.2 GWh, 27.8 % more compared to the first month of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-February 2022 amounted to 994.8 GWh, which is by 9.3 % less compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports decreased by 2.5 % and amounted to 1.22 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first two months of 2022 amounted to 2,946 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 3 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 450 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 0.4 %), oil production reached 481.6 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.6 %), while production of natural gas reached 1,174 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6 %).
