Romania: Electrica completes 27 MW Satu Mare 2 solar power plant to boost renewable energy portfolio

Supported byClarion Energy

Romanian electricity distributor and supplier Electrica has completed the construction of the Satu Mare 2 solar power plant, further advancing its strategy to expand renewable energy production and diversify its portfolio.

Located near Botiz in Satu Mare County, the new solar facility has an installed capacity of 27 MW and represents an investment of more than 20 million euros. The project includes a 110/20 kV transformer station and connection works to the local distribution network, partly financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

With this addition, Electrica increases the share of renewable energy within its portfolio, taking another step toward reducing carbon emissions and supporting Romania’s transition to sustainable energy sources. The project is considered the first in a series of similar initiatives aimed at expanding the company’s renewable generation capacity.

Electrica currently provides electricity distribution, supply, and energy-related services to around 4 million customers across 18 counties in Northern Transylvania, Southern Transylvania, and Northern Muntenia. Since July 2014, the holding company has been listed on both the Bucharest and London stock exchanges, with most of its capital held by private investors.
