Unit 2 of Romania’s sole nuclear power plant, Cernavoda, was brought back online on the morning of 27 June after a controlled shutdown on 25 June for inspections and minor repairs. Operator Nuclearelectrica confirmed that all corrective actions complied with strict safety protocols, ensuring no risk to staff or the surrounding community.

The unit had earlier completed a scheduled maintenance outage on 25 June, during which routine servicing and mandatory performance tests were conducted. Later that day, a non-combustive smoke event occurred in the plant’s administrative area. Nuclearelectrica quickly identified and resolved the issue, confirming that both reactors continued to operate within normal safety parameters, maintaining uninterrupted electricity generation.

Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant consists of two 700 MW units, which together supply about 20% of Romania’s total electricity.
