Romania allocates additional 240 million euros for natural gas network expansion

The Romanian government has approved an emergency ordinance to provide an additional 240 million euros for the expansion, modernization and conversion of natural gas transmission and distribution networks. This funding will allow more than 44,000 households across the country to gain access to natural gas, reducing reliance on wood for heating and supporting environmental conservation.

The initiative focuses on communities facing difficult conditions, where residents still store firewood in apartments or endure harsh winter temperatures. Without this financial intervention, Romania risked losing 120 million euros already invested from European funds, which would have had to be repaid with interest. Additionally, incomplete projects would have left residents without access to essential infrastructure despite significant efforts.
