Vice-President of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) Zoltan Nagy-Bege said that at least 5 million residential consumers out of a total of 9 million electricity consumers nationwide will fall within the consumption ceiling of 200 kWh and be entitled to a compensation during this winter.
Regarding natural gas, 90 % of the 4 million consumers fall within the consumption ceiling of 1,200 cubic meters per year.
Nagy-Bege warned that there are gas consumers who, after 1 July last year, entered the free market. Some of these 1.1 million contracts will expire before winter and, unfortunately, the options are quite limited for these consumers. Currently, all offers are higher than those prices that were automatically applied for inactive customers as of 1 July 2020 and are also higher than the prices in on-year contracts starting with any month last year.
For these consumers, the only option is to accept an offer at a extremely high prices, after which they could only make an effort to full within the set consumption limits in order to qualify for compensations during the winter season.
