An energy conference on the occasion of the establishment of the Macedonian Association for Renewable Energy Sources (MARES) was held in Skopje.
The conference brought together representatives from the renewable energy sector in the region. They discussed the possibilities of green transition, electricity markets, the distribution network, and the challenges of financing renewable energy projects.
One of the main goals of the energy policy of North Macedonia is to attract investments for the construction of energy facilities and increase the utilization of renewable energy sources. This investment in green energy is expected to contribute to environmental protection and the mitigation of climate impacts.
Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi stated that in late 2019 the Government adopted the Energy Development Strategy for 2040, one of the most important strategic documents in the field of energy and sustainable development for the country. He noted that in North Macedonia, solar power plants produce electricity for 198,000 households. Over the past two years, 685 solar power plants have been granted operating licenses, and these can supply electricity to over 160,000 households.
Marko Bislimovski, the President of the Regulatory Commission for Energy, emphasized that Macedonia has no other option but to undergo a rapid transition, which can be achieved only through investments in renewable energy sources.
