The Minister of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska Petar Djokic signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Chinese corporation AVIC, on the project for the construction of hydropower plant Bileca.

The MoU expresses the intention of the signing parties to negotiate the terms of cooperation on this project and the possible conclusion of relevant contracts for its implementation, in accordance with applicable regulations.

According to the Memorandum, a Chinese company will assess the existing documentation for the construction of HPP Bileca and conduct the necessary site surveys to prepare a feasibility study for the project and other required documents. Minister Djokic said that the government has recognized the positive results that the AVIC company, as a contractor, has achieved during the construction activities on the HPP Bistrica project, and in that sense, it will support them if they are engaged as contractors based on a public call that would be issued for HPP Bileca project.

The power plant will have an installed capacity of 33.5 MW and expected annual electricity generation of 121.6 GWh. The estimated cost of the project is around 65.5 million euros and the plant should be put into operation within five years. The concession is awarded for a period of 50 years.

HPP Bileca would be the third hydropower plant within the Gornji Horizonti complex, after 60 MW HP Nevesinje and 160 MW HPP Dabar, which is already under construction. Below the future plant, HET already operates HPP Trebinje 1, while the production of HPP Dubrovnik at the mouth of Trebisnjica is shared with Croatian power utility HEP.
