In September 2024, total electricity consumption in North Macedonia amounted to 389,954 MWh. Natural gas consumption was recorded at 30.68 million cubic meters, coal consumption reached 234,251 tons, and petroleum products consumption stood at 110,437 tons. According to data from the State Statistical Office, 99.9% of the electricity consumed in September was covered by domestic production. Additionally, 97.9% of the total coal consumption was used for electricity generation.
The total net electricity production in North Macedonia for September 2024 was 369,149 MWh, marking a 7.2% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. The breakdown of electricity production is as follows:
- Thermal power plants produced 124,155 MWh (33.6% of total production), a decrease of 28.8% compared to September 2023.
- Hydropower plants generated 61,066 MWh (16.5% of total production), which is 19.3% less than the previous year.
- Combined Heat and Power Plants (CHPPs)Â produced 143,108 MWh (38.8% of total production), showing an increase of 11.7% compared to September 2023.
- The Bogdanci wind farm contributed 11,964 MWh (3.24% of total production).
- Biogas power plants generated 4,092 MWh, while solar power plants produced 24,763 MWh, representing 6.71% of the total electricity production for the month.
This energy mix highlights a continued reliance on domestic production, though with variations in the contribution from different energy sources, particularly in the context of lower hydropower generation and increased solar and wind energy contributions.
