The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that North Macedonia’s state-owned power utility, ESM, has initiated a tender process for the construction of two new solar power plants, with a total combined capacity of 30 MW.

The tender includes plans for the 10 MW Oslomej 2 solar plant, to be developed on the site of a decommissioned open-pit coal mine within the TPP Oslomej complex, and the 20 MW Bitola solar plant, which will be located near the Bitola thermal power station. Both projects are being financed with a 25 million euros loan from the EBRD.

The deadline for submitting bids is set for January 17, 2025.

ESM had previously launched a 10 MW solar power plant at TPP Oslomej in 2022, which was also supported by the EBRD with a 5.9 million euros loan, in addition to a 1.6 million euros grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
