Government of Montenegro has approved the construction of three solar power plants

The Government of Montenegro has approved the construction of three solar power plants. The approvals were given to local company Sun Horizon which will build Cevo solar power plant, as well as to companies Sunrise Europa and Obnovljivi Izvori Energije for their solar projects in Savnik and Cetinje.

Sun Horizon was given approval for the facility with an installed capacity of 400 MW that will stretch over an area of 5.2 million square meters at Cevo locality in Cetinje municipality. The company was founded by CWP Europe, which already operates and develops wind projects in Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

Local company Sunrise Europe was given approval for the construction of a solar power plant in Savnik municipality with the maximum installed capacity of 220 MW.

Obnovljivi Izvori Energije was established in 2021 by Simes Inzenjering and obtained approval for the construction of a solar power plant in Cetinje municipality. The facility will have an installed capacity of 225 MW and estimated annual electricity generation of 306 GWh.

Currently, there are 39 RES facilities owned and operated by private entities. These are two wind farms (Krnovo and Mozura), 32 small hydropower plants and five small-scale solar power plants. Combined installed capacities of all these facilities is 167 MW, which is more than the half of the capacity of HPP Perucica, operated by state-owned power utility EPCG.
