Pljevlja Coalmine, a fully owned subsidiary of Montenegro’s state power utility EPCG, is making a major move into renewable energy with plans to develop a large-scale solar power plant in the northern Pljevlja district. This marks a significant shift from the company’s traditional focus on coal mining.
The project will be built on approximately 626,245 square meters of land, as outlined in the municipality’s newly approved urban-technical plan. With the adoption of these planning documents, the project can now move forward with initial site preparations and detailed engineering work.
According to technical estimates, the planned solar power facility could achieve a peak generation capacity of around 81 megawatts under optimal sunlight conditions.
