Former Mayor of Pljevlja Filip Vukovic said that last week’s outage of coal-fired thermal power plant Pljevlja was caused by a malfunction, that was repaired and the plant is now operating at full capacity. However, this led to costly electricity imports, which reached up to 3 million euros per day.
Vukovic said that these malfunctions are expected, since the plant is over 40 years old. He added that the value of electricity TPP Pljevlja now generates has skyrocketed. Before it was around half a million euros per day, but now, with extremely high electricity prices on the EU markets, this value has increased ten times or even more.
He stressed the importance of uninterrupted operation of TPP Pljevlja, especially during summer months when hydro-based electricity generation is at its minimum and overhauls of HPPs are usually performed.
