In order to start the revitalization of unit 3 of HPP Piva, Montenegrin state-owned power utility EPCG signed an agreement on the revitalization with a consortium consisting of Slovenian Litostroj and Serbian Elektroremont.

The value of the works, which include the complete reconstruction and repair of hydro-mechanical and electrical equipment on the third unit of HPP Piva, is 2.24 million euros. This will significantly extend the operational life of the power plant. Works are expected to start in April 2021 and should be completed by December same year. Director of HPP Piva Dragomir Blagojevic said that the revitalization of the first two units, which was also performed by Litostroj, was done with exceptional quality. He reminded that, along with the works on the revitalization of its units, the works on the second phase of the reconstruction and modernization of HPP Piva, worth 16 million euros, are being performed. This means that by the end of 2022, when the deadline for the completion of all these projects is set, the total investment in HPP Piva will reach close to 24 million euros.

In 2018, EPCG and a Slovenian-Italian consortium of Litostroj and ABB JV have signed an agreement on the reconstruction and modernization of hydropower plant Piva worth 10.3 million euros. The modernization project will be financed by German KfW Bank with 8.5 million euros, while the remaining amount will be covered by EPCG. This modernization procedure will extend the plant’s operational life by additional 40 years. Revitalization of the first two units was completed in July 2020.
