The Perucica hydropower plant, a key asset in Montenegro’s electricity system, has finally been granted its official usage permit after operating under a construction authorization since 1953, state-owned power utility EPCG announced.
EPCG highlighted the lengthy delay as an example of slow institutional processes and questioned the reasons behind the long wait and the previous lack of effort to secure this essential document.
The company expressed gratitude to all those involved who, despite administrative, technical, and historical challenges, helped complete the procedure successfully. With the permit now issued, EPCG can close a longstanding legal chapter marked by unusual endurance.
Beyond a bureaucratic formality, the usage permit provides legal certainty for the plant’s ongoing operations and the licensing necessary to produce electricity. Although the plant has generated power for decades without it, it now functions with formal authorization.
