The Montenegrin Government approved the construction of a 150 MW solar power plant. The investor in the solar project is a local company Solar Power.
The future power plant will stretch over an area of 1.3 million square meters in the municipality of Cetinje. Estimated annual electricity generation of the facility is around 214 GWh.
In early 2023, the Government approved the con- struction of three solar power plants. The approvals were given to local company Sun Horizon which will build 400 MW Cevo solar power plant, as well as to companies Sunrise Europa and Obnovljivi Izvori Energije for their solar projects in Savnik (220 MW) and Cetinje (225 MW).
Currently, there are 39 RES facilities owned and operated by private entities. These are two wind farms (Krnovo and Mozura), 32 small hydropower plants and five small-scale solar power plants. Combined installed capacities of all these facilities is 167 MW, which is more than the half of the capacity of HPP Perucica, operated by state-owned power utility EPCG.
