Hungary set a new record for its lowest-ever electricity consumption on Easter Monday, thanks to exceptional solar energy production, as reported by Deputy Energy Minister and Government Commissioner Gabor Czepek. He noted that such low system loads were previously only observed in the early hours of the day before 2023. The previous record was set on Easter Monday last year. This year, the peak load dropped to 2,386 MW, almost 500 MW lower than the previous high of 2,846 MW.
In a significant development, Hungary achieved a net electricity export position for three consecutive days, from Saturday to Monday. This means that the country exported more electricity than it imported during each 24-hour period.
Czepek emphasized that the growth of Hungary’s renewable energy production and energy storage infrastructure is crucial to enhancing the nation’s energy independence. He also highlighted that Hungary’s environmentally focused energy strategy is showing tangible, positive outcomes.
