The Hungarian Ministry of Energy announced that the country reached a new record in solar electricity generation on Saturday, 22 February, with industrial solar systems producing 3,490 MW at peak output during a 15-minute interval.
This surpasses the previous record of 3,347 MW set in August 2024. The milestone also marks the start of the solar peak season, which has arrived slightly later compared to the previous year.
On that day, solar energy accounted for 70% of the certified gross system load, underscoring its increasing role in the national electricity supply.
In 2024, solar panels contributed 25% of Hungary’s total electricity generation, the highest share in Europe. The Ministry emphasized the need to strengthen energy storage infrastructure to maximize the benefits of renewable energy sources.
