The average price of electricity on the Hungarian energy exchange HUPX’s day-ahead market (DAM) dropped to €92.2 per MWh in October 2024, marking a 13% decrease compared to the previous month, when the average baseload price was €106.1 per MWh. The DAM peak price also saw a decline, averaging €99.72 per MWh, down 9% from September’s price.
In terms of trading volume, the total traded on the DAM amounted to 2.58 million MWh in October, which is 1% lower than the 2.73 million MWh traded in September, but a notable 22.9% increase compared to October 2023 (1.94 million MWh). The average daily volume traded on the DAM during October was 83,356 MWh.
On the intraday market, the total traded volume increased by 16%, reaching 801,796 MWh in October 2024, compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume on the intraday market stood at 25,864 MWh. The average price for the hourly product on the intraday market was €97.47 per MWh, which is 3% lower than the price in September.
These changes reflect a shift towards more trading activity in October, despite the lower prices on both the day-ahead and intraday markets, highlighting ongoing market dynamics in Hungary’s electricity sector.
