After his visit to Moscow, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary has secured additional 700 million cubic meters of Russian natural gas.
Minister Szijjarto said that this additional volume will be delivered via southern direction, but also through interconnectors with Slovakia and Austria, where additional 20 million cubic of gas per day will be entering Hungary in the coming weeks.
The Hungarian Government recently declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, which includes a package of seven measures – increasing gas production in the country from 1.5 to 2 billion cubic meters, securing an additional 700 cubic meters of gas to fill gas storages, banning the export of energy products and firewood, increasing coal production, speeding up the restart of TPP Matra units, extending the operational life of NPP Paks and reducing the subsidies for certain types of consumers.
