Hungary could relaunch feed in applications for households in 2023

Hungarian Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos said that the country could start accepting households’ applications to join the country’s feed-in tariff scheme again in this year.

The Government suspended household applications to join the feed-in tariff scheme in the autumn of 2022, after home solar panel volume outpaced network capacity.

Minister Lantos said that Hungary’s solar capacity could reach 10-12 GW by 2030, well over its current 6 GW target. He added that the country’s electricity network is being upgraded to boost capacity for more renewable energy, but that power should be used close to where it is generated.

He also added that the potential of energy communities, at the municipal or even residential building level, is still untapped and could contribute to cutting network losses and reducing network load.
