Futures prices for the fourth quarter of 2022 on the Hungarian electricity derivatives exchange, HUDEX, have been rising continuously since the beginning of June.
Thus, the contract for the delivery of electricity in the period October – November 2022 on HUDEX jumped to 499.3 euros per MWh, during the trading session on Thursday, July 7. This is the highest level since the beginning of the year.
At the end of February, the price crossed the threshold of 300 euros for the first time, and since mid-June it has recorded a constant increase.
A similar trend was observed when it comes to contracts for the delivery of electricity in August 2022. Prices have doubled in the last month – from 224.7 euros per MWh (June 7) to 458.7 euros per MWh on July 7.
Contracts for delivery in 2023 have also seen strong growth in the last month, but also the whole year – so the settlement price reached a maximum of 389 euros per MWh on July 7, breaking records day after day since June 20.
At the beginning of the year, the price for a year in advance was around 140 euros per MWh. The threshold of 200 euros per MWh was broken in April.
