Greece: Valorem launches first wind farm on former lignite site

French renewables developer Valorem has completed its first wind energy project in Greece—a 27 MW wind farm on Mount Askio near Kozani. The site, once associated with lignite-based power generation, now hosts six Vestas V150 turbines, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW.

Named Anatoliko Askio – Magoula, the wind farm is expected to generate around 68 GWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of approximately 18,000 households. The electricity will be sold through a power purchase agreement with Greek suppliers Optimus and Heron.

The project has also secured a 20-year contract-for-difference backed by the Greek Government. While this contract is not yet in force, it will be activated once the current power purchase agreement concludes.
