A total of 12 thermal power plants, including one lignite-fired power station, have been called into action today to help cover a rise in electricity demand prompted by the summer’s first heatwave, expected to keep temperatures high over the next couple of days.
Electricity demand was expected to peak at 12.30pm on Wednesday, reaching 8,990 MW, while demand for the entire day should reach 173.560 GWh.
Power grid operator IPTO expects electricity demand for the day to be met without issues but, even so, is on heightened alert along with distribution network operator DEDDIE/HEDNO.
RES units are expected to cover 61.365 GWh of the day’s 173.560 GWh requirement, thermal power plants are scheduled to provide 84.979 GWh, hydropower plants will cover 11.653 GWh, while electricity imports will reach 18.453 GWh.
The increase in demand has led to a wholesale electricity price increase of 15.21 percent in a day, to 110.15 euros per MWh. The day’s maximum price will reach 209.49 euros per MWh and the minimum price will drop to 65.12 euros per MWh, energypress.eu reports.
