According to Greek Minister of Energy Kostas Skrekas, the subsidies for the new rooftop solar program will be granted exclusively to photovoltaic systems that include a battery, with the latter being 100 % subsidized, while the total subsidy will cover 60 % of the cost.
The public call for subsidizing rooftop solar installations is open for individuals, small businesses and farmers. It should be launched by mid-March and is expected to receive at least 250,000 applications, of which some 100,000 in households category. The capacity limit is 10 kV.
The mechanism is for net metering, which is a system of compensation in electricity. The prosumer, the owner of the solar system that was installed for own consumption, delivers excess electricity to the network and draws it back when his demand exceeds production.
