According to a study performed by the University of Thessaloniki, wholesale electricity price in the Greek market would be by as much as 83 euros/ MWh higher without the contribution of renewable energy generation in the country’s energy mix.
Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas quoted the study, pointing out the importance of renewable energy sources in Greece’s energy mix. He said that the wholesale electricity price in December 2021 would have reached 315 euros/MWh instead of 235 euros/MWh with the contribution of hydro, wind and solar production.
The study also analyzed the intraday market, which recorded its highest price of 415.94 euros/ MWh on 22 December, instead of 451.11 euros/ MWh without the renewable energy contributions.
