The Greek regulatory authority for energy, RAAEY, has approved Elpedison’s proposal to enhance its planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Thessaloniki by adding a second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

Initially, Elpedison’s project included only one FSRU, but last year the company submitted a request to modify this plan. The new approval also allows for the relocation of the facility approximately 150 meters west of its original site.

Additionally, RAAEY has sanctioned the rerouting of the project’s submarine pipeline, which spans about 4.5 kilometers. This adjustment, informed by Elpedison’s geophysical and dredging studies, is designed to prevent intersections with existing pipelines and other obstacles.
