The Greek Government will allocate 120 million euros to municipal units to facilitate the installation of 1 GW of solar power plants. Solar systems will generate electricity for low-income households.
At least half of the electricity coming from the newly installed solar capacities will go to vulnerable households, while the rest will be used for municipal facilities such as kindergartens, schools, sports and health centers.
The solar systems are planned to be built in free ground spaces or on the roofs of municipal buildings. In order to take part in the program, municipalities will have to establish energy communities. The Government has estimated that around 30,000 low-income homes will benefit from the support scheme in its first phase.
