Greece: Impact on renewable energy facilities over 400 kW

According to the revised curtailment plan, renewable energy facilities with capacities of 400 kW or more will be subject to curtailments whenever network stability requires it, regardless of the type of renewable energy technology or the commissioning date. The way these curtailments are applied will depend on the type of renewable technology involved—either directly through a set-point limitation or indirectly through a compensation mechanism.

Indirect curtailments will apply to renewable energy systems other than wind and solar, such as small hydropower plants, biomass/biogas units, and combined heat and power (CHP) systems. This approach is necessary because these technologies face practical challenges in implementing real-time curtailments, making a revenue-based solution more appropriate.

Projects with capacities below 400 kW will be exempt from curtailments, creating two distinct categories within green energy portfolios: facilities that are subject to curtailment and those that are not.
