However, electricity consumption fell by 2.5 % in the first four months of the year, compared to the same period in 2020, the majority of which happened in the first quarter, with 5.1 % year-on-year consumption drop.
Electricity generation rose by 24.6 % in April 2021, compared to the same month in 2020. Natural gas-fired power plants increased their production by 52.4 %, followed by lignite-fired power plants with 21.8 % increase. Production from renewable energy sources (wind, solar) registered 5.8 % increase, while production of hydropower plants rose by 3.1 %. Natural gas was accounted for a 43 % share of the energy mix in April, followed by wind and solar with 36 %, lignite with 11 % and hydropower with 6 %, while electricity imports covered the remaining 5 %.
The share of Public Power Corporation remained approximately the same for a third successive month in April – 65 %, following a 64.8 % in March and 65.1 % in February.
Protergia, leads among the independent suppliers, and also was the only company to increase its market share in April to 8.2 % share from last month’s 7.95 %. Heron follows with 6.3 % share, Elpedison with 4.72 %, NRG (3.99 %) and Watt & Volt (2.44 %).
