The Greek Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA) has announced the successful completion of the first phase of hydrocarbon surveys conducted by ExxonMobil and HellenIQ Energy southwest of Crete. Following this achievement, the consortium has requested to initiate the second phase, which will assess the feasibility of drilling operations.
The initial phase involved the acquisition and processing of 3,250 kilometers of 2D seismic data, along with a comprehensive geochemical survey. These marine geophysical surveys, carried out by PGS on behalf of ExxonMobil and HellenIQ Energy, were completed in March 2023.
The first phase concluded on October 9, and the next phase officially commenced on October 10. This upcoming phase is set to last three years and will focus on the acquisition and processing of 3D seismic data, which is critical for further exploration efforts.
