Data from the natural gas transmission system operator DESFA reveals a significant rise in Greek gas consumption, which increased by 25.16% in the first nine months of 2024. Consumption reached 47.65 TWh, up from 38.07 TWh during the same period last year. However, exports saw a dramatic decline of 95.45%.

The Sidirokastro entry point emerged as the primary gateway for natural gas imports into Greece, with imports rising by 62.67% to 26.32 TWh, compared to 16.18 TWh in the first nine months of 2023. This surge allowed Sidirokastro to surpass the Revythoussa LNG terminal, which experienced a 52.25% drop in imported volumes.

At the Revythoussa terminal, a total of 12.34 TWh of LNG was unloaded from 17 tankers arriving from four different countries. The majority of this LNG, approximately 8.02 TWh (64.99% of total LNG imports), originated from the United States. Imports from Russia followed at 6.27 TWh, reflecting a 54.39% decrease compared to the same timeframe last year, while Norway and Algeria contributed 0.98 TWh and 0.48 TWh, respectively.
