Greek authorities are preparing for the possible complete cut of Russian natural gas supply during the winter and are putting the country’s electricity system to a stress test.
The Ministry of Energy has asked operators of gas -fired power plants (PPC, Elpedison, Heron) to operate their power plants using diesel for 120 hours during the month of September.
Thus, PPC will operate TPP Komotini and unit IV of TPP Lavrio using diesel, along with two units operated by Elpedison and three by Heron, to a total 1,795 MW participating in this stress test.
Also, these units will be mandated to secure enough fuel to operated for 20 days, instead of current 5-day mandatory reserve.
