The operator of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Alexandroupoli, northern Greece, Gastrade, has announced that the terminal has officially entered commercial operation as of October 1.
Gastrade, which is co-owned by the Copelouzos Group, Gaslog, DEPA Trade, the Greek gas transmission system operator DESFA and its Bulgarian counterpart Bulgartransgaz, is marking a significant milestone in the development and energy security of Europe with this launch.
The terminal is poised to provide natural gas supplies to several countries, including Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, and Serbia in the Balkans, as well as Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, and Slovakia to the east and northwest.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the facility boasts a maximum regasification capacity of 5.5 billion cubic meters per year. Notably, 14 Greek and international companies are already engaged in the project, having booked nearly all of the terminal’s capacity through at least 2030.
