In the first week of October, electricity demand rose in the Iberian Peninsula compared to the previous week. Portugal recorded the largest increase, up by 1.0%, despite the national holiday on Sunday, October 5, celebrating the Day of the Establishment of the Republic. In Spain, demand grew by 0.8%.
In contrast, electricity demand declined in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Belgium. Italy registered the largest decrease, 2.7%, continuing its downward trend for the third consecutive week, while Belgium recorded the smallest drop at 0.1%. France, Germany, and Belgium saw reductions of 0.5%, 0.6%, and 2.0% respectively. In Germany, the national holiday on October 3, the Day of German Unity, contributed to the lower demand.
Throughout the week, average temperatures were higher than in the previous week across most of the analyzed markets, with increases ranging from 0.9°C in Great Britain to 1.9°C in France. In contrast, Germany and Italy experienced declines in average temperatures, falling by 1.4°C and 3.2°C respectively.
According to AleaSoft Energy Forecasting, in the week of October 6, electricity demand is expected to decrease in most major European markets, with the exception of Portugal and Germany, where demand is projected to rise, AleaSoft reports.
