According to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS), electricity consumption in Romania in the first ten months of 2022 amounted to 43.2 TWh, which is 6.4 % less compared to the same period in 2021.
The data shows that industrial electricity consumption reached 32.35 TWh, which is 5.6 % less compared to the same period last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 10.42 TWh, which is a 8.8 % decrease. Public lighting consumption dropped by 0.7 % amounting to some 425 GWh.
Total electricity production reached 46.01 TWh in the first ten months of 2022, which is 6.3 % less compared to the same period in 2021. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 2.4 % and reached 17.57 TWh. Production in hydropower plants decreased by 21.4 % to 11.89 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 1.9 % to 9.07 TWh. Production of wind power in January-October 2022 rose by 13.1 % compared to the same period of 2021, reaching 5.83 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.66 TWh, 4.8 % more compared to the first ten months of 2021.
Electricity exports in January-October 2022 amounted to 5.69 TWh, which is by 13.8 % more compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time electricity imports increased by 9.4 % and amounted to 7.04 TWh.
Total production of primary energy resources in the first ten months of 2022 amounted to 14,635 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 4.2 % less than in 2021. Coal production reached 2,565.5 million tons of oil equivalent (+ 1.5 %), oil production reached 2,436.6 million tons of oil equivalent (- 6.2 %), while production of natural gas reached 5,742.9 million tons of oil equivalent (- 4.4 %).
