Croatia: Traded electricity on CROPEX in December

In December 2020, a total volume of 612,448.9 MWh of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX which is 15.6 % more than in November, of which 562,676 MWh on the day-ahead market and 49,772.9 MWh on the intraday market. Traded volume in December 2020 was 32.2 % higher compared to the same month last year. Average daily base price on day-ahead market in December amounted to 55.54 euros/MWh, which is 7.6 % higher than in the previous month, while average euro-peak price reached 67.43 euros/MWh, 25.3 % higher compared to the previous month. The average price on the intraday market was 57.18 euros/MWh, 21.7 % higher compared to November. There are 22 participants on CROPEX day-ahead market (+1 compared to the previous month), fourteen of which have been active on the intraday market as well. Average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market in December amounted to 18,150.8 MWh.

CROPEX also announced that at the day-ahead auction held on 1 January 2021 for the delivery of electricity on 2 January, the total volume on the day-ahead market was recorded in the amount of 30.556 MWh, marking the first day ahead auction over 30 GWh. CROPEX was launched on 11 March 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool, Europe’s leading electricity exchange, and is co-owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). Intraday market was launched in April 2017. On 19 June last year, after joint project of Croatian and Slovenian transmission system operators and power exchanges, CROPEX day ahead market was successfully coupled with MRC markets through Croatian – Slovenian border.
